University of Siena: International School on Environmental Risk Assessment at the Certosa di Pontignano

The University of Siena organizes the International School on Environmental Risk Assessment at the Certosa di Pontignano (Siena) from 5 to 13 November 2006. The School is open to a maximum of 50 postgraduate students. Degrees in Biology, Natural and Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering will be preferred. Applications from students with degree in related fields will be considered case-by-case. The School aims to introduce students to the principles of environmental risk assessment, the role of hazard identification in that paradigm and its application to risk management strategies.

The course will develop skills in research methodologies and will present case studies to develop a critical understanding of their application to current and emerging environmental health issues. One of the major objectives of the School is to stimulate contacts and discussion between students and teachers and among students. To reach this goal, lecturers are asked, as far as possible, to stay at the Certosa, together with students, at least one full day (from breakfast to dinner), to continue discussion besides the lectures.

Students are expected to give a short presentation (5-10 minutes) on their activity. Student’s presentations will be included in the final programme. The fee, € 1.200,00, includes full board at Certosa di Pontignano from the dinner of sunday November 5th to the lunch of monday November 13th. Deadline for inscription: September 15, 2006
