30th SEFI annual conference: The renaissance engineer of tomorrow, domenica 8 - mercoledì 11 settembre 2002 a Firenze

Entering the new millennium, engineering educators and, more generally, all stake-holders of the scientific and technological formation environment will have to face the difficult task of reshaping the optimal profile and characteristic skills of the future engineers, matching the ever faster developments of modern society.
Besides the need to improve the image of engineers from that of narrowly educated people with a low cultural awareness and little sensitivity for the natural environment they live in (in German "Fach-Idioten"), engineering education strategies must look towards a new cultural norm for the technically educated, aiming to re-create the conditions of the "artist-engineer", i.e. a protagonist of the development processes.
