Welcome to my house at Stazione Leopolda in Florence (during Pitti Uomo – 21/24 giugno 2006)

From Wednesday 21 June to Friday 23 June 2006, Welcome to my house opens its doors for the second time.

WELCOME to my house is the special exhibition project that Pitti Immagine has devoted to the universe of street culture. It’s an event-filled show created to express the streetwear identity with all its nuances and to reveal its role as a driving element in the worlds of art, music and lifestyle. The Stazione Leopolda becomes the ideal platform for a universe in perpetual motion, the ideal place to sample the atmospheres and dynamic stimuli of the street, as well as the sports which are linked to the same.

For this edition, the Stazione Leopolda is transformed into a highly integrated area which also includes the sports exhibition Human Game. Winners and Losers.

WELCOME to my house presents the spring-summer ‘07 collections from around 40 brands that come directly from street culture – from newcomers to well-established historical names. The exhibiting brands include: Asics Sportstyle, Bear Surfboards, Carhartt, Dvs, Eastpak, Ecko Unltd, Ecko Function, Freshjive, Globe, Jeanseng Outfit Royale, Lakai, Matix, One Star, Paul Frank, Pharmacy Industry, Stanley Parsson, Stüssy and Zoo York.
The new layout project consists of an expanse of fabric walls that turn the Stazione Leopolda into an immense movie screen where each brand can express its own identity and show off its collections, amidst cult images and clips from street cinema, from Dogtown and Z-boys by Stacey Peralta to Mike Mills’ Thumb Sucker.

A “CULT” EXHIBITION FOR SNEAKERS AT WELCOME
The big event of this edition of Welcome is SNKRHSTRY.

In sneakers we trust, Italy’s first exhibition dedicated to the sneaker cult, curated by Marco Colombo (Sneakers magazine). An itinerary which passes through two decades, from the early 70s until the late 80s, observed through the feet of the icons of sports and music, reconstructing the historical journey of the sneaker phenomenon. 130 pairs of sneakers will be displayed at the exhibition, ranging from rare models, like the first “Waffle Race” Nikes of the 70s, the “Air Jordans” created for the NBA basketball champion in 1984, to the most famous and highly sought-after running and tennis shoes from Germany’s Adidas.

It will also be possible to admire “masterpieces” by Vans, Converse, New Balance, Puma, Diadora and other important brands which originate from some of the most important collections in the world.

Over the three days of the event, WELCOME to my house will also be hosting a rich CALENDAR OF EVENTS: live performances, jam sessions with protagonists from the world of new musical sounds, urban and video art and, naturally, street and active sports.

The events scheduled include the world preview of the book Proud 2Bea Sticker, edited by Matteo Sola (published by Happy Books).

This is a collection of stickers produced by the protagonists of the streetwear and sportswear clothing scenes (Stussy, Hysteric Glamour, Freshjive, Fuct, Xlarge, Maharishi, North Face...), which interpret the world of stickers as an urban, artistic form of communication that goes way beyond the widespread practice of “customizing” scooters and skateboards, or the phenomenon of “bombing”.
